Slave Software Download

For ProtoTRAK models:
ProtoTRAK MX3 (DPM Models Only)
TRAK AGE2
TRAK AGE3
ProtoTRAK M2
ProtoTRAK M3
ProtoTRAK LX2
ProtoTRAK LX3
TRAK QMV

Follow this process to reload slave software. Please note, we do not recommend that you do this process unless indicated by a Southwestern Industries technician or by our troubleshooting instructions.

Before you begin, please note.
The process will reset machine calibrations and configurations. You may either save the current settings or
re-do the calibration and configurations.
  -    To preserve the current settings:
       -  Put a formatted floppy disk into the disk drive. If your ProtoTRAK has a dual disk drive, use the Parts
          Program drive.
       -  Do Service Code 142. The ProtoTRAK will write the values to the disk.
       -  After the slave software is installed in the ProtoTRAK, re-boot the ProtoTRAK system. Put the floppy disk
you used to store the settings back into the ProtoTRAK and run service code 141 to read the saved
           settings back into the ProtoTRAK.
  -    To re-do the settings, perform the following:
       -  Service code 123 (Calibration)
       -  Service code 12 (Feed Forward Constant)
       -  Service code 128 (Backlash compensation) - this is only for machines that do not have glass scale or
          TRAK Sensor feedback.

Downloading the slave software.
This process will download software that is used to update the slave software for most non-current models of ProtoTRAK and TRAK CNCs. The instructions are written for downloads using computers with Windows 95 or above.

1.  Click on the Download Now button
2.  In the selection window, select Save
Note: If you Open or Run instead of Save, the program will attempt to write to your floppy drive
as described in Extraction Step 3 listed below - this is not recommended.
3.  Choose a location to save the file. You may want to create a directory called "ProtoTRAK
Downloads" or save the file to your Desktop.
4.  After the download completes, you will have the software saved on your hard drive.
Close the download window if it is still open.
5.  The software you have just downloaded is compressed to make it easy to download. See the
instructions below "Extracting and installing the software on your ProtoTRAK" to finish the process.

Extracting and installing the software on your ProtoTRAK
This section describes the easiest way to get the software you have downloaded from your computer
hard drive to your ProtoTRAK. The file slave_u.exe is a self-extracting file for use with Windows 95 or above.

1.  Place a formatted, blank floppy disk into your computer's floppy drive (Drive A).
2.  Locate the software you downloaded.
3.  Double click the file slave_u.exe.
This will cause the software to automatically copy the correct files to the floppy disk you put
     into Drive A.
4.  Turn off your ProtoTRAK or TRAK AGE CNC and remove the system disk.
5.  Put the disk you made in the steps above into the drive that had the system disk.
6.  Turn on the ProtoTRAK.
7.  The screen will read "1 to continue or 0 to quit" - press neither. Instead, press the LOOK key or the * key
to the lower left of the numeric keypad. This will display a list of different ProtoTRAK controls for you to
choose from. Select from the list according to the table below. Please make sure you select the correct one:

Selection

Use for

AGE2 TRAK AGE2 CNC on a knee mill (TRAK knee mill or retrofit)
AGE3 TRAK AGE3 retrofit on a knee mill - NOT for the TRAK DPM
DPM TRAK DPM with ProtoTRAK MX3 or TRAK AGE3 TRAK TRM with ProtoTRAK MX2 or TRAK AGE2
M2 or M2s ProtoTRAK M2 or M3 on a knee mill
M#, M3s or B5 ProtoTRAK M3 on a knee mill or Sport B5 Bed Mill - with or without scale feedback
Lathe All Sport lathes, TRAK lathes models TRL 1440P, 1745P or 1840CSS
QuikCell Mill The QuikCell with the TRAK QMV CNC
SB3 or SB3s With or without scale feedback

8.  For the lathe only - select between models that do and do not have the sliding door and interlock switch.
If you are not sure, take a look at the Lathe photo here.

If you selected the wrong product, or configuration, your machine will not run properly. Simply turn the
pendant off and repeat the process starting with Step 6 above.

9.  Turn off the pendant once again, replace the System Disk and turn it on. Either reset the calibration and
machine configurations or load in the data you saved using Code 141 (see the instructions above).
