Technical Writer

TRAK Machine Tools is a manufacturer of machine tools and CNCs for metalworking. Our products are marketed under the ProtoTRAK brand name and they are specialized for applications in which machinists and engineers make parts in small quantities. We are also in the process of integrating 3D Printers into our value-added sales and support process. Our headquarters and manufacturing are in Rancho Dominguez, CA, near the intersection of the 91 and 710 freeways.

To discover and compile information scattered in different locations and reproduce it in forms that add value and support good customer outcomes.

Job Overview

The Technical Writer reports to the President or other Senior Manager. He or she will work on well-defined projects and seek out information from the following sources:

  • Manuals and other published documentation
  • Forum posts
  • Emails
  • Training material
  • Interviews with SMEs (Subject Matter Experts)
  • Research projects
  • Social media
  • Other sources that the Technical Writer discovers

From this input, the Technical Writer will produce:

  • Training materials (lesson plans, resource materials)
  • Online training courses
  • Procedures structured in our Content Management System (Dozuki)
  • Individualized communications
  • Virtual reality applications
  • Other written and graphical means of communication

Qualifications

  • Degree in a related engineering or scientific discipline.
  • A reasonable commute from home to office.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a communications or technical subject.
  • Very good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Facility with technology: the potential to grasp technology related to CNC machines, manufacturing and 3D Printing.
  • Physical stamina and fitness to work safely on a manufacturing floor or lab for extended periods.
