Applications Support Help Desk Technician

Job Overview

As a Support Help Desk Technician, this person is responsible for the day-to-day support of  our Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Mill and Lathe customers.  On the Help Desk, customers will call and email requesting assistance in troubleshooting problems/failures on their machines.  Upon diagnosis of the reason for the problem, any needed parts are sent to the customer to repair their machine.

In addition, customers may request help in operating/programming the company’s products and resolving embedded computer networking issues.  Assistance in understanding how to use the SWI application including setup and steps to create a program to cut the customer’s custom part is part of the Help Desk service. 

The ideal candidate is a mechanically inclined, computer proficient person who is a natural problem solver.   He/she conveys a sense of confidence and enjoys interacting with people. The Technician should be an outgoing individual who can think on their feet, learn to resolve technical issues quickly and communicate in plain English, with patience and empathy.

The Technician will receive extensive training in the SWI product line.  Training includes understanding the machine operation and product applications.  As an understanding of the products develops, machine troubleshooting and part identification is introduced.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist customers with company product related software/hardware/networking issues
  • Trouble shoot and resolve hardware and software issues for Company Products
  • Assist in debugging customer’s programs
  • Assist in debugging G-Code CNC programs
  • Resolve technical problems with networking
  • Desktop applications experience, including Microsoft Office
  • Oral and written communication skills very important
  • Ability to provide a high level of Support
  • Strong problem resolution and analysis skills
  • Able to adapt easily and multi task
  • Attention to detail and accuracy a must.
  • Basic CAD/CAM software experience is helpful
  • Desire and ability to learn how to set up, configure, and program machine cutting routines based on the SWI company applications;  ProtoTRAK experience a plus
  • Experience with CNC G-Code a bonus but not required

Required experience:
  • 1-2 years Customer Help Desk preferred
Required education:
  • Technical Associate Degree or equivalent experience
