Application Example 1

Before TRAK 2op
— Total man hours: 20.6/lot

Parts are processed through a cell consisting of two turning centers that are run simultaneously by one operator. One turning center performs the 1st operation while the other performs the 2nd operation. Once the entire lot is processed through the cell, it is moved 30 feet to the machining center to complete the 3rd operation by a second operator.

Simultaneous 1st and 2nd operations machining
And 30 feet away...
TRAK 2op Application Example 1, Figure 2
The 3rd operation machining center is 30 feet way from 1st and 2nd operations.

After TRAK 2op
— Total man hours: 12.5/lot

Parts are run through a cell consisting of two turning centers and the portable TRAK 2op VMC. All three machines are run simultaneously by the same operator — one turning center performs the 1st operation, the other turning center performs the 2nd operation, and the TRAK 2op performs the 3rd operation.

TRAK 2op Application Example 1, Figure 3
Simultaneous 1st, 2nd, and 3rd operations machining. Space matters when creating work cells, so the compact 30″ x 48″ footprint of the TRAK 2op makes it the ideal addition for 2nd or 3rd operations.

Example 1 Results

Before TRAK 2op After TRAK 2op
Lot Size 150 pieces 150 pieces
1st Operation Cycle Time (turn one side) 2.25 minutes 2.25 minutes
2nd Operation Cycle Time (turn oposite side) 5 minutes 5 minutes
3rd Operation Cycle Time (mill, center drill, drill) 3.25 minutes 4.25 minutes
Total Man Minutes (5 + 3.25)*150 = 1,237 minutes
or 20.6 hours
5*150 = 750 minutes
or 12.5 hours

Application Example 2

Before TRAK 2op
— Total man hours: 22.5/lot

Parts are machined “three up” on the machining center in operation sequence (operations 1, 2, and 3). The machine is run by one operator.

TRAK 2op Application Example 2, Figure 1
1st, 2nd and 3rd operations machining

After TRAK 2op
— Total man hours: 13.8/lot

Parts are machined “two up” on the machining center in operation sequence (operations 1 and 2). The portable TRAK 2op is placed next to the machining center and simultaneously performs the 3rd operation. One operator runs both machines.

TRAK 2op Application Example 2, Figure 2
3rd operation machining simultaneous with 1st and 2nd operation machining. Parts are machined "two up" on the machining center and "one up" on the TRAK 2op.

Example 2 Results

Before TRAK 2op After TRAK 2op
Lot Size 150 pieces 150 pieces
1st, 2nd and 3rd Operation Cycle Time (face mill, center drill, drill, mill, tap) 9 minutes n/a
1st and 2nd Operation Cycle Time (face mill, center drill, drill, tap) n/a 5.5 minutes
3rd Operation Cycle Time (mill, center drill, drill, tap) n/a 4 minutes
Total Man Minutes 9 *150 = 1350 minutes
or 22.5 hours
5.5*150 = 825 minutes
or 13.8 hours

The TRAK 2op was designed to increase the productivity of multi-operations machining. It can be moved easily and quickly to meet the needs of constantly changing job requirements, and can be deployed in nearly limitless work cell configurations.
