New Century Careers was created to address a critical need for entry-level machinists in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Regional manufacturers came together to develop the Manufacturing 2000 training program, and a short time later NCC was established. Since then, New Century Careers has been committed to training people for the technical skills they need to compete in the workforce as well as placing them with local manufacturing partners.
The no-cost Manufacturing 2000 (M2K) pre-apprenticeship program offers entry-level machinist training to qualified applicants while Manufacturing 2000 Plus focuses on advancing the skills of those already employed by the region's manufacturers.
The partnership between TRAK Machine Tools and New Century Careers provides students and faculty the use of the latest toolroom machines and state-of-the-art ProtoTRAK® CNC controls for NCC's manufacturing training programs.
“This unique, strategic, public-nonprofit partnership launches the next iteration of regional post-COVID recovery for the industry,” says Neil Ashbaugh, NCC president and CEO. “It will help to reframe NCC for a larger role in the industry as a whole.”
NCC will be home to TRAK Machine Tools' Pittsburgh showroom, which affords TMT the opportunity to provide demonstrations and training to shops and businesses in central and western Pennsylvania, West Virginia and eastern Ohio. New equipment such as the TRAK® VMC5 Toolroom Machining Center, DPM RX3 Bed Mill, TRL 1845RX Lathe, and 2op Portable VMC will augment existing TRAK machines and provide the students with hands-on experience with the most modern technology.
